Hayley Williams, born December 27, 1988, in Meridian, Mississippi, is an acclaimed singer, songwriter, and musician best known as the lead vocalist and founding member of the rock band Paramore. She spent her early childhood in Meridian before moving with her mother to Franklin, Tennessee, at age 13. Although her professional music career developed in Tennessee, her Mississippi beginnings are an important part of her story and connection to the South.
After moving to Tennessee, Williams quickly immersed herself in music, meeting future Paramore members Josh and Zac Farro while participating in a program for homeschooled students. Originally signed to Atlantic Records as a solo artist at 15, Williams pushed to pursue a band-oriented, alternative rock sound instead. Paramore released its debut album, All We Know Is Falling, in 2005 and went on to achieve international success with albums including Riot!, Brand New Eyes, Paramore, After Laughter, and This Is Why.
Williams has become one of the most recognizable voices in alternative and pop-rock music, earning Grammy recognition with Paramore and building a successful solo career with projects including Petals for Armor and Flowers for Vases / Descansos. Her powerful vocals, songwriting, and willingness to challenge genre expectations have influenced a generation of artists.
