Robin René Roberts was born on November 23, 1960, in Tuskegee, Alabama, but she was raised in Pass Christian, Mississippi—a Gulf Coast town she proudly calls home. As the youngest of four children, she grew up in a household guided by her parents: Lucimarian Tolliver Roberts and Col. Lawrence E. Roberts, a distinguished Tuskegee Airman. In Pass Christian, Robin excelled in basketball and tennis, graduating salutatorian from Pass Christian High School in 1979.
After high school, Roberts remained in the South, earning a bachelor’s degree in communications from Southeastern Louisiana University in 1983 while competing as a standout athlete—the school retired her basketball jersey following record-setting achievements. She began her broadcast career in Mississippi, working as a sports anchor and reporter at WDAM in Hattiesburg and WLOX in Biloxi, honing her storytelling and on-camera skills
Off-air, she’s celebrated her Mississippi upbringing by honoring her parents—bringing them to the Mississippi Heritage Awards and supporting local charities. Roberts’s achievements and values—from academic excellence to community service—are deeply entrenched in the foundation Pass Christian provided
